Renovating your house in Carbon-Blanc

From Les Flandres, a pre-war neighbourhood, to the Cité Beausite of 1956, Carbon-Blanc brings together homes from several eras. We prepare their walls, redo the electrics where needed, then repaint the interiors.

Avenue Austin Conte, once the great royal road from Paris to Bordeaux, runs through the centre of Carbon-Blanc, and the Salazard, Sourd and Brignon estates recall the grand houses that grew up among the vines. Houses make up 63.8% of homes, and six main residences in ten are owner-occupied, according to INSEE. The period from 1946 to 1990 accounts for more than half of them. In these houses, new paintwork lasts when the plaster and skim coats have been repaired, and the electrics redone beforehand.

NS BAT 33, based in Cenon since 2020, renovates your Carbon-Blanc house under a single contract. Before painting, we prepare the surfaces, meaning the walls and ceilings that will be painted: tired coverings stripped, cracks filled, plaster repaired, sockets and circuits replaced where necessary. The bathroom, plumbing and interior insulation can be added if your project includes them. A single point of contact oversees the trades through to handover, the starting point of our 10-year builder's guarantee (garantie décennale).

Housing and neighbourhoods in Carbon-Blanc

Les Flandres, the first neighbourhood built

The Flandres neighbourhood was built before the Second World War. Houses from that period often have several layers of paint and plaster, and their wiring needs checking. Before repainting, whatever no longer adheres is stripped off, the surfaces are repaired and the electrics are brought up to date.

Cité Beausite, rue Pasteur

Cité Beausite dates from 1956. A 1950s home often has closed-off rooms and water and electrical systems in need of renewal: we redo the electrics and plumbing, reorganise the rooms or redesign the bathroom, then repair the walls and ceilings before painting.

Housing estates and small apartment blocks

Estates of detached houses have grown up, along with a few apartment buildings: the 1971 to 1990 period accounts for 37.9% of main residences, and the period after 1990 for 39.9%. In an estate house built before 1990, the bathroom and consumer unit often top the list of things to review; the newer ones benefit from a new layout.

How a project runs

  1. 1

    You describe your project

By phone or with the online form, you tell us what you want to transform. We call you back to pin the project down: the rooms involved, your priorities, the timing you have in mind.

  2. 2

    An itemised quote

Demolition, plumbing, plastering, painting: each job has its own line and its own price. You see exactly what you are paying for and decide with all the facts, before you sign anything.

  3. 3

    Each trade in turn

Demolition opens the project, followed by plumbing and electrics, partition walls, floors, joinery and painting. We organise this sequence: each trade starts on the finished work of the one before.

  4. 4

    Handover, room by room

We go over the work with you and record any snags on the handover report. That date starts your guarantees: one year for completion (garantie de parfait achèvement), two years for equipment (garantie biennale), ten years under the builder's guarantee (garantie décennale).

FAQ

Repainting the inside of a house in Carbon-Blanc: painter or renovation company?

At NS BAT 33, the two go together: interior painting is one of our trades. If your walls are sound, we prepare and paint them. If they show cracks, plaster that sounds hollow or sockets to move, we first redo the plastering and electrics, under the same contract. In walls 36 to 80 years old, like those of most main residences in Carbon-Blanc, checking the surfaces always comes before painting.

A 1950s or 1960s house in Carbon-Blanc: does the wiring need redoing?

Often, at least in part. In Carbon-Blanc, the years 1946 to 1970 produced 17.4% of main residences (INSEE, 2023 census): if nothing has been done since, their wiring is more than fifty years old. We check the consumer unit (fuse box), the earthing and the circuits, replace what needs replacing, then add any missing sockets before closing up and painting.

Do renovation works need declaring to Carbon-Blanc town hall?

Not for an interior renovation that creates no extra floor area: work on a bathroom, kitchen, electrics, plastering or painting inside the rooms needs no formalities at the town hall. A prior planning declaration (déclaration préalable) becomes necessary as soon as the outside appearance changes. No historic monument (monument historique) and no protected heritage area (site patrimonial remarquable) appear for Carbon-Blanc on the French Ministry of Culture's lists. Where relevant, the quote sets out the procedure to plan for.

Do you work in every part of Carbon-Blanc?

Yes, throughout the town: from Les Flandres to the Gua valley, by way of Cité Beausite and the Favols neighbourhood. The town is 5 km as the crow flies from NS BAT 33's registered office in Cenon, and borders Lormont and Bassens. For a house as for a flat, describe your street and your project in a few lines: we will call you back to arrange the next steps.
